There are several literature projects worldwide that have made it their mission to save world literature from oblivion. The volunteers at these projects scan antiquarian books, edit them digitally with text recognition software and make them available for reading in electronic format.
Examples of such literature projects include "Project Gutenberg”, established in 1971 and “Projekt Gutenberg-DE”, which has been in existence since 1994. These literature projects source their content from the public domain (meaning the author or translator has been deceased for at least 70 years). tredition cooperates with several of these literary projects to publish over 100,000 titles as part of its TREDITION CLASSICS series. An average of 15% of the proceeds from the book sales in this series are paid back to these literature projects and serves to support their nonprofit cause.
tredition publishes all book titles and sells in retail bookstores worldwide or online stores such as Amazon.
tredition started TREDITION CLASSICS with the content from the German Projekt Gutenberg-DE. trediton publihes all 6,500 book titles in printed format and distributes them worldwide.
Projekt Gutenberg-DE
From Project Gutenberg which was established in 1971, tredition publishes more than 10,000 titles in 2011 and about 15,000 in 2012.
